About Me
Brandon Harper is a Chicago jazz pianist and 2024 Ravinia Steans Music Institute fellow who studied under Rufus Reid, Billy Childs, and Steve Wilson. At 20, he has performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Andy's Jazz Club, Jazz Showcase, and other premier venues with combos led by Isaiah Spencer, Greg Ward, and others.
A 2024 YoungArts winner and Jazz Studies student at Northwestern University under Derrick Gardner, Brandon is a Jazz Links alumnus and past Kiewet-Wang co-winner as Chicago's best high school jazz musician, both through the Jazz Institute of Chicago.
Remarkably, Brandon only began piano in 9th grade after establishing himself as a percussionist – earning ILMEA all-state honors for classical percussion and performing with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is an alumnus of Jazz at Lincoln Center's Summer Jazz Academy, the NAfME All-National Honors Ensemble for Jazz, and served as a Ravinia Jazz Scholar.
